I’m so grateful that my play “The Future Is Female…” is getting another reading so soon after being read at the Flint New Works Festival last weekend. A play about female reproductive rights, it is a very timely piece made more timely with each passing day. I stepped off my flight from Flint on Monday night to learn about the leaked SCOTUS decision overturning Roe v. Wade and thought that my play is one step closer to being about now instead of a dystopian future. And so it will land a little bit differently tomorrow, just one week after being read in Flint.
Emel Haddad directs at Best Medicine Repertory Theater in Gaithersburg, MD. The reading is at 7pm and is free. Proof of vaccination and masks are required. There will be a brief talkback after the reading, and I look forward to hearing how the audience responds in this new world.
